Why PetSTEP?

Carpets get wet, muddy, stains and retains odors, not something we wanted to fold up and put INSIDE our vehicle. That's precisely why we have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in new technology, that allows us a non slip finish without the use of carpet. Both our PetSTEP II MPR and HalfSTEP II MPR have a high tech non slip finish, that has been safety tested.

Safety for your pet and yourself is our primary concern, NOT trying to cut corners on quality to improve our profits. To make sure we had produced the safest ramp on the market we had an independent analysis by San Jose State University.

Stairs for Pets?

Dogs and cats do not like stairs! It is very difficult for our furry friends to attempt to climb stairs, particularly if they are currently experiencing joint swelling, dysplasia, arthritis & pain. It is most difficult for them to bring their back legs onto another level, which further causes pain and injury. The gradual slope of a ramp, is the answer, for it allows the pet to slowly, walk up the PetSTEP, at their own pace. Do not wait till your pet is old, becomes injured or can no longer get to their favorite place. We recommend you never let your pet jump up or down from difficult places, start them on a PetSTEP at a young age.

How We Unknowingly Contribute to Our Pets' Injuries

By allowing our dogs to jump down from high places, we encourage injuries. Dogs were never meant to jump down from SUVs and pickups. Imagine what would happen to us if we consistently were forced to jump down from our kitchen table or desk.

A runner or jogger would never begin their run without proper warm up exercises! This is exactly what we ask our furry friends to do each and every time we ask them to jump from a tailgate. They will do anything we ask of them because they love and trust us without reservation. Imagine that they have been in your vehicle for an extended time; we open the hatch or gate and command them to jump! Their muscles are cold and stiff. Making that leap could cause severe trauma and damage. These loving animals were not born with arthritis or dysplasia! We must give them every chance for comfort that we can. Please start your puppy on a ramp and never allow them to jump when their muscles are not fully warmed up.

Training Tips:

Some pets will take to the PetSTEP immediately. For those that don't, we suggest you put the ramp flat on the ground & walk your dog over it (a reward placed on the ramp also helps or you might try feeding him (her) on the ramp once or twice). When you raise the ramp, your pets favorite treat placed towards the top of the ramp also works the first time.

The first time up the ramp, take your dog by the collar & lead him to the reward. You'll only need to do this once or twice. It is important to take your dog for a ride after he has successfully entered the vehicle.

If you are using the HalfSTEP II MPR for the back door of a standard four door sedan, the back door may not open wide enough to accommodate our 17" wide ramp. The back doors generally will not open fully such as a front door, which will open wide enough to accommodate our ramps. Before ordering one of our ramps for back door entrance of your four door sedan, we suggest you measure the opening to determine if the back door will open wide enough. Of course the front door entrance is an option for you.

A Safety NOTE: If you own a dog ramp, please do not place it loose in the compartment with your pet as it becomes a missile in a sudden stop. It is best to simply tuck the dog ramp behind your driver's seat where it is safe and handy for you. We also do NOT recommend placing the dog ramp flat on the back seat, as this presents similar problems in a quick stop.
