Your cat will benefit from a daily dose of fresh air and exercise.
House cats especially need the mental stimulation of a jaunty walk outside.
Here are a few tips that might make a cat's first harness encounter a little better:
- While you are inside, put the harness on your cat and adjust it. Be sure you are able to slide one finger between the harness and your cat.
- Right away, place a bowl of your cat's favorite food or treat in front of him.
- After he has finished his dish, give him a few minutes and then remove the harness.
- Do the same thing the next day, except leave the harness on a little longer and add the lead.
- Continue doing step 4 until your cat is comfortable wearing the harness.
- Then take him outside to a quiet location.
- Don't expect your cat to walk by your side. After all, he's a cat! Let him take you for a walk.
- After you bring your cat back inside, remove the harness.
Pretty soon your cat will look forward to his outings.
